16 Cellos presented by Cellospeak
Sunday, March 8, 3:00 pm
Tickets: Purchase tickets online or call 703-264-1258 for information about the 16 Cellos.

On Sunday, March 8th at 3:00 p.m. the 16 Virtuoso Cellist return to Church of the Epiphany. Local cellists join together with their colleagues from Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York. They are the stunning faculty of the adult cello workshop, Cellospeak, held on the campus of Bryn Mawr College each summer. In a wonderful variety of works, one of the center pieces will be a rarely heard Largo from a Villa-Lobos work called “Fantasia Concertante,” originally written for 16 cellos for the dedication of the New York Cello Society. This may be your only opportunity to hear this singular piece.  New arrangements for the 16 Cellos by Gary Fitzgerald include the Dvorak “Rondo” with its shared melodies among players, a lovely “Elegy” by Delius, and the Rimsky-Korsikov “Flight of the Bumblebee.” From the incomparable “Angel Series” of Piazzolla they will play new arrangements of all three, also made possible by our arranger, along with the gospel hymn “Pass Me Not,” sung by guest artist Howard Sapp. You won’t want to miss this concert!   Please bring your kids (who are free up to age 18) and friends.
